Comments from attendees:
“I really feel this is important to other leadership roles within this hospital. This came at a perfect time when things are feeling hopeless. I have been here 40 years this month. I have seen a lot of changes, good and bad. It is people like you who motivate people in this world to do better work with ourselves and each other. I like the interactions and getting others involved in all the topics. It made it realistic and has made me have a better perspective. Thank you.”
“Absolutely wonderful and applicable skills that can be applied at work and home. The self-reflection of “responding” really is amazing and so eye-opening. Michael – thank you for your gift to us – seeing the vulnerability and honesty brings such a gift of humanness and reminds me of why I remain in healthcare – touching, healing, and loving others.”
“The sharing of stories gave “real life” to the objectives – as a leader and person. Michael, thank you for being vulnerable and sharing – it validates we are all “human”. ACR – Absolutely valuable exercise and applicable self-reflection to “do the work”. All material is both valuable, insightful, and applicable to my role and as a person. I admit I was hesitant to attend – just knowing how much work I have and how short-staffed my team is – and this will put me further behind – but I would do it again and again. The value and realization that we are “in this together” hearing and seeing we are all struggling – and some days are harder than others – but these tools are packed in my toolbox – and I will put them to use tonight! I have “a refreshed spirit” and love seeing the “reality of us as people vs. staff, leaders – and that Michael was honest and vulnerable with us instilled trust that these skills will be valued for a long time :).”
“Appreciated being real and human in your approach; you build a rapport with us, bringing examples from our “world”. By doing this, although we just met, you began to build a sense of TRUST, allowing us to learn and explore in a non-judgmental environment. You followed your model – it’s the right thing to do….take care of the people – the people will take care of the process – the process will take care of our patients – GREAT OUTCOMES will be and can be recognized by being more deliberate and intentional with our efforts.”
“Thank you for teaching me effective ways to be resilient in both my profession and personal life. Your stories will forever help me to remember and relate to the principles you taught.”
“Having served in the active-duty Army for over 4 years, I had previously low expectations of this day. The resilience training I received then was honestly a joke. I appreciated your approachability and the no BS attitude. The stories and examples you provided were on point and appropriate to the situation.”
“Your delivery has made this a much more enjoyable experience than I have ever attended for work or otherwise. I would be more than willing to have paid for this on my own. Your delivery kept me engaged, and your real-life experiences helped me connect it to my own life. I look forward to being able to use what I have learned here today right away. Thank you for making sure to share the experience about your brother. It means more to me than I ever thought it would. Love + Light to you.”
“I 1,000% enjoyed this training. I am a huge advocate for mental health and learning how to process adversity is so very important. I like that the training also offered new ways that are more effective on a managerial approach to communicate. I have strong connections with the military, so I appreciated that connection. Thank you for teaching me skills I can use at home and at work.”
“Stories were spot on – great ways to bring concepts to life. I can’t believe you didn’t use notes! You established a great rapport with the group and credibility, which can be hard with healthcare leaders.”
“Stories! They held my attention and easily tied everything together. Not only did this whole day of topics relate to work, I related to home and family too. Thank you! It was much needed. You showing real enthusiasm was a bonus and shows that you are speaking from the heart.”
“I really loved this program. It made me look inside, which is not always a great picture – your personal stories that you added and humor kept me engaged! Thanks for all your do – this was extremely impactful!”
“One of my favorite things is how you brought life into words. Being able to relate, feel, and understand with you is one of the best ways to learn for me. I am so thankful that I was able to attend this class so early in my leadership (1 month) career. You have given me so much knowledge to build a strong foundation for my leadership career”.
